Indigenous Communities at the Confluence
Zoom event
Indigenous Communities at the Confluence Zoom event View Map Prior to colonization, the shores of the Susquehanna River looked quite different. Decades of archaeological studies in the Susquehanna Valley, particularly around the confluence of the Susquehanna and Chenango Rivers, have produced a rich record of the Indigenous communities that flourished in this region for thousands of years. Join Dr. Nina M. Versaggi for a FREE virtual presentation on archaeological excavations completed by the Public Archaeology Facility at Binghamton University. Some of the sites she will discuss include Castle Gardens in Vestal, downtown excavations at the BU Academic Center and Twin River Commons, as well as sites along the Chenango, such as Broome Tech and Castle Creek. These discoveries and more have contributed to our knowledge of Indigenous communities at the confluence before European contact in the seventeenth century. When: September 22 at 6:30PM Where: Zoom About the Presenter: Dr. Nina M. Versaggi (Senior Research Associate, Department of Anthropology and the Public Archaeology Facility, Binghamton University). Dr. Versaggi received her doctorate and master’s degrees in Anthropology from Binghamton University, and her Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology from Rutgers University in New Jersey. She has been active in professional archaeology since 1972. In 2019, she retired as director of the Public Archaeology Facility, a research center on the Binghamton University campus. She continues to be a part of PAF’s research, education, and community outreach missions, currently assisting with a National Science Foundation Informal STEM grant at the Windsor and Whitney Point Middle Schools. Her entire professional career has centered on researching the archaeological history of the people who once lived in present-day New York State, ranging from ancient hunter-gatherers to Revolutionary War combatants.

Oracle Circle with Story Ducey Zoom event View Map ONGOING WEEKLY MONDAY CLASSES Via Zoom. All are Welcome! Email Story to get Zoom Link: storyducey@gmail.com This Circle is called an Oracle Circle because we will be focusing first, on deep meditation for healing and renewal for ourselves as we attempt to reenter the world together. Then, we will be seeking guidance, teachings and home work from Spirit together for all of us and our families as we move through this transition. This is experimental work with Spirit. We allow Spirit to direct us and present the teachings they want us to focus on. We will record the messaging and seek the overall message as confirmed by the majority of the messaging. The overall goal is to dissolve challenging personal and communal karma while we seek strength and guidance in creating a new chapter for ourselves as individuals and for our world. Story connects Scientific Research into consciousness studies, and the human energy field, until we understand how our bodies are wired for telepathy and intuition. Lots of practice with intuitive techniques, and more. . . For more info and to see more Development Circles, visit: https://www.isdoneonta.org/weekly-development-circles

Williams Road Band and Co., "All Star Country Revue" Earlville Opera House Arts Center 18 E Main Street Earlville View Map Williams Road is a three piece roots band from the rolling hills of central New York. Their sound is a little bit of Bakersfield country with a mix of Americana. The band's unique songwriting represents life in the rural setting they call home. Pushed by strong harmonies and acoustic guitars at its core, add violin, electric guitar, and the pedal steel, and there is Williams Road. The groups influences are artists, Lyle Lovett, Tom Waits, Steve Earle, and some of the good old boys of country long gone.

Corey Harris West Kortright Center 49 West Kortright Church Road East Meredith View Map Along with contemporaries Keb’ Mo’ and Alvin Youngblood Hart, Corey Harris helped elevate acoustic guitar blues to prominence and popularity in the mid-1990s. He continues to lead a contemporary revival of Country Blues by mixing the raw, direct emotion of acoustic Delta Blues with a considerable variety of influences – from New Orleans to the Caribbean to West African music – into his richly expressive music. His musical artistry is complemented by reflective explorations of the historical and cultural circumstances that gave rise to the Blues.

Scott Cook Earlville Opera House Arts Center 18 E Main Street Earlville View Map Scott Cook (www.scottcook.net) has been living out of a van or a backpack for a dozen years now, touring almost incessantly across Canada, the US, Europe, Asia, Australia and elsewhere, and distilling his experiences into straight-talking, keenly observant verse. His fourth independent release, One More Time Around, was nominated for a Canadian Folk Music Award, and its opening track "Pass It Along" won the Folk and Acoustic category in the 2013 UK Songwriting Contest, with UK magazine Maverick Country naming him "one of Canada's most inspiring and imaginative storytellers". He's currently touring in support of his sixth studio album, Further Down the Line, which earned Cook his second CFMA nomination (English Songwriter of the Year), and comes packaged in a 132-page book containing a look back, in words and pictures, on his last decade of full-time travel. Cook is one of the hardest-working DIY troubadours on the road today, averaging over 150 shows and a dozen festivals every year since 2007. All the hard miles notwithstanding, he still believes that songs can change your life, and your life can change the world.

She is known for her unique gumbo of folk, blues and gospel from her childhood in Harlan County, Kentucky infused with the eclectic grit of pre-gentrified Brooklyn. Inheriting the powerful vocal range of her gospel-singing African American father and the resilient spirit of her mother’s Cherokee/Shawnee/Choctaw culture, Redbone broadens the boundaries of American Roots music. With songs and storytelling that share her life experience as a Native and Black woman and mother in the new millennium, Redbone gives voice to issues of social justice, bridging traditions from past to present, connecting cultures, and celebrating the human spirit.
